In the midst of the storm...

Wednesday started just like any other day...we ate breakfast, started school, and watched the rain...

It rained...all...day...long...

My hubby texted me mid-morning and asked me to check the basement periodically. In my mind I said, "oh sure. like it's going to flood here on top of the hill..."

At lunch time, my hubby was detoured several times by flood waters. In fact at one point he called and said he wasn't sure he could make it home at all...

As he was leaving, he made me promise to keep checking the basement... I may even have (ok, I did) rolled my eyes...

As I was getting ready to put Little One down for her nap, I checked the basement. No water. See? Nothing to worry about!

15 - 20 minutes later I opened the basement door to get some card-making supplies...A book floated by the stairs...

I screamed...I grabbed the phone and called my awesome friend...She was there in a flash. She took my kids down to her house and then came back to help me...(Did I mention that it was her birthday??)...answered prayer...

When I called Brian, he said he wasn't sure he could make it home with all the flooding...my heart sank...

That is when my friend stepped in and just started telling me what I needed to do. I couldn't make decisions...I couldn't even pray...

We put things up on higher ground. We saved what we could. I cried...a lot...

My hubby arrived home with a wet/dry shop vac...answered prayer...

My dad found us a transfer pump...answered prayer...

The water stopped rising...answered prayer...

The water receded...answered prayer...

Even though my dad tried for an hour to reach us, (Mount Joy was an island apparently) he eventually had to go home with our pump. But Brian was able to meet him a few hours later and bring the pump home...answered prayer...just in time to help my friend with her own flooding....

I've cried...A LOT.

I have vacillated between feeling victorious and feeling defeated, but through it all, I have never lost my sense of wonder that God answered prayers that I didn't even have the words to pray. He IS an awesome God.
